Astoria Park

Astoria Park is located on Shore Boulevard right in front of the East River and in between the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge and the Hells Gate Bridge. It has breath taking views of the manhattan sky line, Randalls Island and the RFK bridge illuminates the Astoria park grounds after sunset.  Although there is ample parking all around the park, it also has its own parking lot.

It is a haven to joggers, bikers, and rollerbladers with its multiple trails and outdoor track.  There are also tennis courts and basketball courts to work a sweat up on.  It is a haven to joggers, bikers, and rollerbladers with its multiple trails and outdoor track.  There are also tennis courts and basketball courts to work a sweat up on.

In the summer months the park also offers a large pool to cool off in.  It starts at about 1 foot deep and gets deeper as you walk in. The pool was completely renovated a few years ago and now also offers a sprinkler section for younger children. It is completely free and only requires that you have a proper bathing suit and lock for your locker to be admitted.

The park also offers Charybdis Playground which is a magical spot along the east river that serves Astoria's children. The playground has striking views of both the Hells Gate bridge and the RKF bridge. The playground was named Charybdis because according to Greek mythology, Charybdis was the daughter of Poseidon, the God of the sea. As a young nymph she flooded lands to add to her fathers kingdom until Zeus turned her into a monster.  The water by the Hells Gate bridge is known to be especially turbulent, therefore the name Charybdis is fitting.

Astorians also enjoy a marvelous fireworks show right at our beloved Astoria park.  The fireworks are placed right between the RFK bridge and the Hells Gate bridge and both Astoria Park and Randalls Island get the best seats in the house.  The fireworks take place a few days before the Macys 4th of July show, so we get double the fun for our Nations Independence celebration.

Welcome to Astoria of Queens

Astoria in Queens, N.Y. has bloomed a diverse array of restaurants that may soon rival manhattans restaurant scene.  Astoria is located on the north west tip of Queens and it is a 10 minute drive to Manhattan and is also adjacent to Long Island City. The Astoria population experienced an increase after the 9/11 attacks which led many manhattanites to move out of the borough and seek new residences in Brooklyn in Queens that were still relatively close to the city.  New building construction appeared in every nook and cranny of Astoria. The new population increase led many new businesses to open and a substantial amount included restaurants. I have been living in Astoria Queens for the past 16 years and have seen my neighborhood grow beautifully.  There are eating options for everyone and many of our restaurants are top rated. In this blog I will write about my favorite restaurants in Astoria along with my top picks for bars and clubs in the area as well.  There are new restaurants and bars opening weekly in our little corner of the world so check back in to catch the latest reviews.  Astoria is very diverse, like Queens itself, who has the biggest melting pot in the world, so there are appealing venues for every taste.
Astoria is not only appealing because of their cuisine choices and night life, they also have great schools, museums, parks, children activity centers, health and fitness centers, bakeries, shopping, and the list just goes on and on.  I plan to cover as much as I can and I would like to tend to my readers so please leave a comment if you would like me to visit and write about a certain interest you  have in Astoria. I hope I can feed your curiosity and spark an interest in you for this wonderful corner of Queens I love, ASTORIA.
